Sometimes the best way to get inspiration when going out and shooting is by choosing a certain color tone to set the mood of your series. This comes easy with the Samsung NX mini which has a CALM FILTER which applies a cool tone to your photos.
This seemed fitting for my tranquil Sunday afternoon out on the town in Cádiz and El Puerto de Santa Maria, two small Andalucian villages in the south of Spain. Sunday’s in Spain are typically pretty quiet, as all the shops are closed and everyone seems to be resting from Saturday night’s festivities.
This Sunday was no exception, and even though the sun was shining, El Puerto seemed a bit more deserted than usual through the lens of my NX mini. The CALM FILTER was the perfect compliment to this feeling, making scenes seem a tinge more desolate.
Even the usually packed Mercado Central in Cádiz was a bit less bustling than usual. During this time of year, the whole city preps for the upcoming festivities of Carnival, which includes fisherman selling their freshly caught erizos, literally translating to sea hedgehogs, but better known as sea urchins in English.
To apply the CALM FILTER on the Samsung NX mini you’ll need to shoot in either P, A, S, or M mode. From there, select MENU> PICTURE WIZARD> CALM. Picture Wizard offers a variety of filters including Cool, Classic, Retro, and Forest. So next time you’re in need of some mood inspiration, explore the different filters your camera offers and snap away!
