Taking a trip to Morocco isn’t complete without a day trip to Fez, otherwise known to be a less touristy version of Marrakech. Stockpiled souks that sell mountains of leather goods, spices, tea kettles, and knickknacks introduce a maze of temptation for the souvenir-thirsty, and it’s here where you’ll sharpen your bargaining skills to get the most bang for your dirham.

A quick 2-hour bus ride from the capital city of Rabat will lead you into this UNESCO World Heritage Site, a rustic city whose narrow hillside alleys provide the perfect place to wander.

The photo above was taken by applying the Samsung NX20’s MINIATURE SMART FILTER which creates a tilt-shift effect that adds a bit of ambiguity to the shot. To set SMART FILTER options press [Fn] while in Shooting mode and select the appropriate filter, in this case, MINIATURE.

The patterns and intricate architecture in Fez provide a great opportunity to take some black and white shots. It’s easy to swap to black and white using the NX20 by selecting the CLASSIC photo style. To select this photo style press [Fn] while in shooting mode and hit PICTURE WIZARD.

Each turn in the Medina is a surprise. Above, a multitude of spices stir the senses, while below some lively chickens take the front stage. It was truly a pleasure getting lost in the souk and feeling the pulse of the city’s old medina.
