Balboa Park stands as one of the top things to see when visiting Southern California. Known mostly as the hub of the San Diego Zoo, it’s also a cultural mecca with museums, theater, live music, and some of the most beautiful architecture that I’ve seen in Southern California.
For me, this was the ultimate day in the park: picnicking on the grass while people-watching, throwing bread in a pond only to be globbed up by giant coi fish, and enjoying beautiful weather that is only synonymous with San Diego.
However, my favorite part by far was seeing the hacienda-style architecture that surrounded the coi pond. Intricately outlined facades lead you down charming arched corridors, making me feel like I was somewhere in Europe. Of course that was more than enough reason for me to go shutter-crazy with the NX300.
The charm must have been contagious because there were weddings wherever you turned. Dolled up brides walking down the cobblestone streets against the backdrop of beautiful architecture only enhanced the storybook aspect of it all.
For anyone thinking about visiting the San Diego area, Balboa Park is a great place to go to soak up some relaxation time and culture all in one day.
