Taking Fun Fisheye Snapshots with the NX Mini

Some of the most playful photos are taken with a wide angle lens. A Fisheye lens offers an extreme version of a wide angle that can distort your photos in a fun and abstract way. However if you don’t have the mega bucks to invest in a Fisheye lens, as they can be pricey, there are other ways to achieve the same effect.

The Samsung NX Mini, for example, has a Fisheye Smart Filter built in as one of its options, allowing you to get the same wide angle shot without needing a specific lens. Other Smart Filters include a “Miniature” filter, which gives a tilt-shift effect, and “Vignetting” which darkens the edges of your shot to highlight a center-aligned subject.

By taking your camera around and shooting using the Fisheye Smart Filter, you’ll quickly learn which types of subjects compliment its oblong effect. I found myself very attracted to street art, curved lines, and building facades, which all seemed to pop a bit more in wide angle.

Whatever you choose to shoot, it’s always fun to experiment with different lenses and filters, as you never know what kind of results you’ll get!
